The resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 h. The solvent was removed. The residue was washed with sat. NaHC03 and extracted with CH2CI2. The combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried over anhydrous MgS04, filtered and concentrated to give 4-(chloromethyl)-2- methoxypyridine (V3) (400 mg, 80%) as a light yellow liquid.
