We describe here the synthesis and structural characterization of two new classes of ambiphilic, N-boryl imine ligands, wherein boron is associated with a Lewis basic imine nitrogen. These ligands can be easily generated in two steps from the corresponding pyridinyl- and phosphinyl-tethered aldehydes. B-11 NMR analysis suggests the association of the Lewis acidic boron to either the pyridine unit or via intermolecular acid/base interactions with the imine. Both of these ligands can coordinate to palladium, and their structures were confirmed by X-ray crystallography.

By taking advantage of the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) process, we presented a novel fluorescent probe IPY-SO2 based on imidazo[1,5-alpha]pyridine derivative for detecting SO32- with a low detection limit (70 nM). The selective oxidation of C-H bond is critical for feedstock manufacturing in chemical industry. Current strategies typically involve the use of oxygen or peroxide as the oxidation reagent under high temperature, which sets severe challenges in production sustainability and industrial safety. Herein, we demonstrate an environmental-friendly and safe electrocatalytic strategy for the selective oxidation of benzyl group to ketones at ambient conditions, while using water as the sole oxygen source. Water addition reduces the onset potential of anodic C-H oxidation, and produces 1-tetralone with satisfying conversion and excellent ketone to alcohol ratio. Layered MnO2 catalysts (with rich oxygen vacancies) further adjust the water affinity and facilitate the oxidation, leading to a significantly improved faradaic efficiency.

Thiazole derivatives attract the attention of scientists both in the field of organic synthesis and bioactivity research due to their high biological activity. In the present study, thiazole ring was obtained by the interaction of 1-(4-(bromoacetyl)phenyl)-5-oxopyrrolidine-3-carboxylic acid with thiocarbamide or benzenecarbothioamide, as well as tioureido acid. A series of substituted 1-(3-(1,3-thiazol-2-yl)phenyl)-5-oxopyrrolidines with pyrrolidinone, thiazole, pyrrole, 1,2,4-triazole, oxadiazole and benzimidazole heterocyclic fragments were synthesized and their antibacterial properties were evaluated against Gram-positive strains of Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Listeria monocytogenes and Gram-negative Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli and Salmonella enterica enteritidis. The vast majority of compounds exhibited between twofold and 16-fold increased antibacterial effect against the test-cultures when compared with Oxytetracycline.

Tertiary alpha-hydroxyphosphine oxides have been synthesized via the catalyst- and solvent-free reaction between available secondary phosphine oxides and aliphatic, aromatic and heteroaromatic ketones at 20-62 degrees C in near to 96-98% yield. The developed method meets the requirements of green chemistry and the PASE (pot, atom, step economy) paradigm. According to quantum-chemical calculations at the B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) level, the synthesized hydroxyphosphine oxides feature a weak (approximate to 3 kcal center dot mol(-1)) O-H center dot center dot center dot O=P intramolecular hydrogen bond.

Three novel ruthenium nitrosyl complexes [Ru(NO)Cl-3(InicMe)(2)] (1b), [RuNOCl3(NicEt)(2)] (1c) and [RuNOCl3(NicMe)(2)] (1d) (InicMe = methyl isonicotinate, NicEt = ethyl nicotinate, NicMe = methyl nicotinate)were prepared and crystal structure of the complexes were determined by single crystal XRD analysis. Finally, cytotoxicity of the compounds was tested on Hep2 and HepG2 cell lines. In the set of similar compounds mer-[RuNO(L)(2)Cl-3] (L = Py, gamma-Pic, beta-Pic, Inic-Alk, Nic-Alk), complexes with iso-nicotinic acid esters are the most toxic, while nicotinic acid derivatives are less toxic and compared with pyridine complex. Activity of odor compounds of soy sauces has not been fully determined so far. Herein, a new switchable GC/ GC x GC-olfactometry-mass spectrometry system for simultaneous GC x GC-MS analysis and sniffing of each odor-active substance through a single injection was used for the aroma extract dilution analysis of five regular high-salt liquid-state soy sauces (HLS). Methional, maltol, guaiacol, 4-ethylguaiacol, 2-acetylpyrrole, 2-acetylfuran, 2-phenylethanol, and 4-hydroxy-2,5-dimethyl-3(2H)-furanone showed high flavor dilution (FD) factors. The FD factors of all odor-active compounds in different odor attributes were summed up (score) to evaluate the odor characteristics of the samples. Cooked potato-like odor was the most important characteristic. The difference in the odor characteristics were mainly reflected in the balance of caramel-like/sweet, roasted/roasted nut-like, spicy/burnt, and unpleasant odor intensity; the fruity odor intensity was the weakest. This study will provide a better understanding of the odor characteristics and key odor-active compounds in Chinese regular commercial HLS.

Mixed ligand nickel(II) and ruthenium(II) complexes were synthesized from pyridoxal-N-allyl-thiosemicarbazone hydrochloride and triphenylphosphine. The structures of the complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR, H-1 and P-31 NMR, conductivity, magnetic moment measurements and single-crystal X-ray diffraction technique. Based on X-ray crystallographic studies, a square-planar structure has been proposed for the Ni(II) complex, in which the thiosemicarbazone ligand acts as dianionic tridentate ONS ligand. In the case of the Ru(II) complex, the thiosemicarbazone is coordinated to metal atom as a monoanionic bidentate NS donor ligand in an octahedral geometry. Antioxidant activities of the ligand and its metal complexes were calculated as their trolox equivalent antioxidant capacities (TEAC) by CUPRAC method and DPPH assay. Both the ligand and its metal complexes were found to be antioxidant and are much more antioxidant at least 2.1 times than trolox, even, ligand is 3.5 times greater than that of trolox according to CUPRAC. A linear correlation (correlation coefficient R-2 = 0.9997) appeared between the obtained TEAC values by the two antioxidant assays.

The first catalytic method for diastereo- and enantioselective synthesis of allylic boronates bearing a Z-trisubstituted alkenyl fluoride is disclosed. Boryl substitution is performed with either a Z- or E-allyldifluoride and is catalyzed by bisphosphine/Cu complexes, affording products in up to 99 % yield with >98:2 Z/E selectivity and 99:1 enantiomeric ratio.
