The solution was diluted with CH2Cl2 and quenched with 1 N NaOH. The aqueous layer was extracted with CH2Cl2. The combined organic layers were dried (Na2SO4), filtered and concentrated to furnish a yellow oil. The residue was resubjected to the reaction conditions for 20 hours. After workup, a yellow oil was obtained. The amine product was purified via recrystallization (CH2Cl2/hexanes) to give 1.6 g (75%) of the amine.
