A solution of lithium bis(trimethylsilyl)amide in THF (1 M, 14 mL, 14.0 mmol) was added to a solution of ethyl 2-(6-chloropyridin-3-yl)acetate (2.5 g, 12.5 mmol) in THF at -78 C under nitrogen. After stirred at -78 C for 2 h, methyl iodide (1.94 g, 13.7 mmol) was added. The mixture was stirred at 20 C for another 8 h. Worked up, concentrated and purified with silica gelcolumn chromatography, eluting with 0%-40% EA/PE, to give the title compound (1.5 g, 83% purity in LCMS, yield 46%) as yellow oil.
