A mixture of 2,3 -dichloroisonicotinic acid (l9.2g, 10 mmol) in BFb/THF (1 M, 300 mL) was stirred at 60 C for 3 h. After cooling to RT, MeOH (100 mL) was slowly added, then the reaction mixture was concentrated and diluted with H20 (100 mL) and extracted with EtOAc (200 mL x 3). The organic layer was separated and washed with brine, dried over Na2S04, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to give the crude title compound (15.4 g, yield 87%) as a yellow solid which was used directly without further purification.
