Dioxane (3 mL) and water (1.5 mL) were added, and the mixture was stirred at 80-95 C. for 1 to 4 h. After cooling to rt, the mixture was poured into EtOAc/H2O (1:1, 10 mL) and the aqueous layer was extracted with EtOAc (5 mL×2). The combined organic extracts were dried (Na2SO4), filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure. Purification of the resultant residue by silica gel chromatography (EtOAc/heptanes) afforded the desired biaryl product.
