The crude thus obtained, was purified by silica gel column chromatography using ethyl acetate in n-hexane (0-6%) as an eluting solvent to afford methyl 2-[(5-fluoro-3-formylpyridin-2-yl)sulfanyl]benzoate (2.65 g, 61%) as off white solid.
