To a stirred solution of 3-bromopyridine-4-carboxylic acid (1.0 g, 5.0 mmol, 1 equiv) in DMF (10 mL), was added 4-fluorophenol (0.560 g, 5.0 mmol, 1 equiv), CuI (1.90 g, 10.0 mmol, 2 equiv) and Cs2CO3 (3.260 g, 10.0 mmol, 2 equiv). Heated the reaction mixture at 110 C. for 18 h. Reaction progress was checked by LCMS. The reaction mixture was diluted with water (20 mL) and added few drops of dil. HCl till pH was slightly acidic. The aqueous layer was extracted with ethyl acetate (50 mL*2). Combined organic extracts were washed with brine (50 mL), dried over anhydrous Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to obtain 3-(4-fluorophenoxy)pyridine-4-carboxylic acid (0.200 g, 18% Yield)
