Thionyl chloride (27.9 g, 234 mmol) was added dropwise to the solution of 5,6-dichloropyridine-3-carboxylic acid (18.0 g, 94 mmol) in MeOH (300 mL) at 0 C. The resulting mixture was heated under reflux for 3 hours, cooled and concentrated under reduced pressure.
