A solution of pyridoxal hydrochloride (10 mmol) in methanol was added to a methanolic solution of NEt3 (10 mmol in 10 ml). The mixture was stirred for 10 min. Then, a methanolic solution of 4-methyl-orthophenylenediamine (5 mmol in 5 ml) was slowly added to the reaction mixture. The obtained mixture was stirred for 5 h at room temperature.
