Into a 2-L three-necked round-bottom flask, was placed a solution of (3-bromopyridin-2-yl)methanol (50 g, 0.267 mol, 1.0 equiv) in DCM (1.0 L) and 1H-imidazole (36.4 g, 0.534 mol, 2.0 equiv). After the mixture was cooled to 0 C., tert-butyl(chloro)dimethylsilane (48.1 g, 0.320 mol, 1.2 equiv) was added by three batches. The reaction solution was warmed to room temperature and stirred for 4 h. The reaction mixture was diluted with H2O (1.0 L) and extracted with 2×500 mL of DCM. The combined organic phase was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and filtered. The filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure, and the residue was purified by silica gel column with ethyl acetate/petroleum ether (1:10) to provide the title compound.
