The mixture was diluted with 50 ml of ethyl acetate, washed with water, and hydrated and dried over salt cake. Thereafter, the solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure to obtain 1.13 g of the residue. The residue was passed through a silica gel column for purification to obtain 673 mg of 3-(2-pyridyl)methyl (4S)-1,4-dihydro-2,6-dimethyl-5-methoxycarbonyl-4-(3-nitrophenyl)-pyridine-3-carboxylate.
