The vials were capped and heated at 100° C. for 10 min in a single node microwave reactor. The solution was partitioned between water and ethyl acetate. The organic layer was isolated, dried over Na2SO4, filtered through celite and the solvent was evaporated. Automated column chromatography using the Biotage equipment. Gradient eluation using heptane-ethyl acetate, 0percent to 50percent. Methyl 2-(3-methyl-4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)-isonicotinate (1.22 g, 71percent) was isolated. 1H NMR (600 MHz, cdcl3) delta 2.57 (s, 3H), 3.99 (s, 3H), 7.70 (d, 1H), 7.81 (dd, 1H), 7.91 (d, 1H), 7.98 (s, 1H), 8.29 (s, 1H), 8.84 (d, 1H).
