To a solution of 5-bromo-3-chloro-2-methylpyridine (1.03 g, 5 mmol) and (i-PrO)3B (2.24 mL, 10 mmol) in THF (10 mL) was added n-BuLi (3.75 mL, 1.6 M in hexane, 6 mmol) drop-wise at – 78 oC. After the mixture was stirred at -78 oC for 1 hr, it was quenched with water. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the aqueous layer was washed with Ether (2 x 10 mL). The aqueous layer was then adjusted to pH~8 with 1N aqueous HCl solution and extracted with EA (3 x 50 mL). The combined organic layers were dried over Na2SO4, and concentrated to give 5-chloro-6-methylpyridin-3-ylboronic acid (650 mg, 76% yield) as a white solid.
