The resultant mixture was stirred at 110 C for 2 h and then concentrated under reduced pressure. Water (100 mL) was added and the aqueous layer was extracted with EtOAc (250 mL X 3). The combined organic layer was washed with brine, dried (MgSO4), and evaporated in vacuo to afford a light yellow solid (15 g) which was used directly for the next step.
