The resulting mixture was stirred at 0C for 35 min. The mixture was cooled to -70C and a solution of 2-fluoropyridine (I-25) (100 g, 1 .03 mol) in dry THF (800 mL) was added. After stirring at -70C for 2 hr, the mixture was added to a solution of l2 (261 .6 g, 1 .03 mol) in dry THF (800 mL) at -20C under N2. After the reaction was complete, the mixture was quenched with ice water (4 L). The mixture was diluted with EtOAc (4 L) and washed with aq. Na2S203 (500 mL) and brine (500 mL). The organic layer was dried over Na2S04 and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by distillation in vacuum to afford 2-fluoro-3-iodopyridine (I-26) (140 g, 61 %) as a yellow solid.

The organic layer was evaporated in vacuo and the product was distilled on a Kugelrohr yielding 2- fluoro-3-iodopyridine (27.0 g, 60.6% yield).
