Separate the organic layer, dry over sodium sulfate, filter, and concentrate under reduced pressure. Purify the residue using silica gel chromatography, eluting with ethyl acetate to afford the title compound (0.77 g, 70%). H-NMR (CDCl3, 3 00 MHz): 8 3.97 (s, 3 H) ; 5.85 (bs, 2 H) ; 7.06 (d, J = 2.0 Hz, 1H), 7.97 (d, J = 2.0 Hz, 1H).

The resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. Next, the mixture was diluted with water and extracted with EtOAc. The organic fractions were combined, concentrated and the resulting crude residue was purified by column chromatography (petroleum ether/EtOAc 95/5 to 50/50) to give 3-amino-5-chloro-pyridine-2-carboxylic acid (2-hydroxy-2-methyl-propyl)-amide.
