The resulting solution was partitioned between water and ethyl acetate. The organic layer was separated and concentrated under reduced pressure. The crude residue was purified by flash chromatography on silica gel (eluent 1 to 10 percent ethyl acetate in dichlomethane) to afford 0.149 g (40percent) of the title compound as a yellow oil.ESI/APCI(+): 246 (M+H), 268(M+Na).

The resulting solution was stirred for 60 min at 85°C. The mixture was concentrated under vacuum and the residue was diluted with 20 mL of H20. The resulting solution was extracted with 3×20 mL of ethyl acetate and the organic layers combined and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. The solids were filtered out. The resulting mixture was concentrated under vacuum. This resulted in 0.62 g (77percent) of methyl 5-((3-bromo-5- fluorophenoxy)methyl)picolinate as a yellow solid.LC-MS: ( +
