Sufu is a pleasant-tasting, traditional Chinese fermented soybean food that is rich in nutrients. In this study, the changes of volatile and nonvolatile metabolites in sufu fermented by bacillus licheniformis, were investigated. The results indicated that a total of 55 kinds of nonvolatile compounds were detected, including 2 carbohydrates, 4 alcohols, 17 amino acids, 18 organic acids, 6 biogenic amines, and 8 other substances. Furthermore, a total of 58 volatile compounds identified were composed of 11 esters, 16 alcohols, 10 acids, and 21 miscellaneous compounds. Inoculation of bacillus licheniformis enriched the metabolite pro?le of sufu and improved its functionality and safety of edibility. It was observed that the pure fermented starter resulted in controlled acceleration of sufu maturation.

Three novel ruthenium nitrosyl complexes [Ru(NO)Cl-3(InicMe)(2)] (1b), [RuNOCl3(NicEt)(2)] (1c) and [RuNOCl3(NicMe)(2)] (1d) (InicMe = methyl isonicotinate, NicEt = ethyl nicotinate, NicMe = methyl nicotinate)were prepared and crystal structure of the complexes were determined by single crystal XRD analysis. In all complexes, the organic ligands are coordinated by a pyridine nitrogen atom and located in trans-position each to other and in cis-position to NO group. In the crystal package of all compounds stacking interactions of two types were determined: pi(arene)-pi(arene) and pi(COO)-pi(arene) stacking. Finally, cytotoxicity of the compounds was tested on Hep2 and HepG2 cell lines. In the set of similar compounds mer-[RuNO(L)(2)Cl-3] (L = Py, gamma-Pic, beta-Pic, Inic-Alk, Nic-Alk), complexes with iso-nicotinic acid esters are the most toxic, while nicotinic acid derivatives are less toxic and compared with pyridine complex. Lithium amides constitute one of the most commonly used classes of reagents in synthetic chemistry. However, despite having many applications, their use is handicapped by the requirement of low temperatures, in order to control their reactivity, as well as the need for dry organic solvents and protective inert atmosphere protocols to prevent their fast decomposition. Advancing the development of air- and moisture-compatible polar organometallic chemistry, the chemoselective and ultrafast amidation of esters mediated by lithium amides is reported. Establishing a novel sustainable access to carboxamides, this has been accomplishedviadirect C-O bond cleavage of a range of esters using glycerol or 2-MeTHF as a solvent, in air. High yields and good selectivity are observed while operating at ambient temperature, without the need for transition-metal mediation, and the protocol extends to transamidation processes. Pre-coordination of the organic substrate to the reactive lithium amide as a key step in the amidation processes has been assessed, enabling the structural elucidation of the coordination adduct [{Li(NPh2)(O=CPh(NMe2))}(2)] (8) when toluene is employed as a solvent. No evidence for formation of a complex of this type has been found when using donor THF as a solvent. Structural and spectroscopic insights into the constitution of selected lithium amides in 2-MeTHF are provided that support the involvement of small kinetically activated aggregates that can react rapidly with the organic substrates, favouring the C-O bond cleavage/C-N bond formation processes over competing hydrolysis/degradation of the lithium amides by moisture or air.

Direct alkylation and arylation of allylic C(sp3)-H bonds are straight-forward approaches for accessing allylic C-C products. However, the engagement of allylic C-C bond- forming reaction without introducing extraneous functional groups and stoichiometric oxidant or reductant has proved difficult. Here, we report a general and mild strategy using semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) as photocatalysts for coupling a broad range of available allylic C(sp(3))-H bonds with alpha- amino C-H bonds or heteroarenes, respectively, under sunlight irradiation (> 85 examples). The protocol bypasses stoichiometric oxidant or reductant and pre-functionalization of both the coupling partners and produces hydrogen (H-2) as the byproduct. The outstanding efficiency and selectivity and step- and atom-economy represents the first direct alkylation and arylation of allylic C(sp(3))-H bonds with hydrogen evolution powered by solar energy.

We report a mild palladium-catalyzed method for the selective allylation of 4-alkylpyridines in which highly basic pyridylic anions behave as soft nucleophiles. This method exploits alkylidene dihydropyridines, which are semi-stable intermediates readily formed using a ‘soft-enolization’ approach, in a new mechanistic manifold for decarboxylative allylation. Notably, the catalytic generation of pyridylic anions results in a substantially broader functional group tolerance compared to other pyridine allylation methods. Experimental and theoretical mechanistic studies strongly suggest that pyridylic anions are indeed the active nucleophiles in these reactions, and that they participate in an outer-sphere reductive elimination step. This finding establishes a new pK(a) boundary of 35 for soft nucleophiles in transition metal-catalyzed allylations.

Cancer is a strong global burden with increasing numbers of diseases and ongoing anticancer drug resistance. The number of structurally novel anticancer drugs is strongly limited. They cause high costs for the social health systems. Most critical so-called multidrug resistances (MDR) are caused by transmembrane efflux pumps that transport drugs with various structures out of the cancer cells. Multidrug resistance proteins (MRPs) type 1 and 2 are found overexpressed in various kinds of cancer. There is a strong need for inhibitors of those efflux pumps. We developed novel nonsymmetrical 1,4-dihydropyridines as novel inhibitors of cancer relevant MRP types 1 and 2. The structure-dependent activities of the differently substituted derivatives were evaluated in cellular assays of respective cancer cells and are discussed. Promising candidates were identified. One candidate was demonstrated to resensitize a cisplatin resistant cancer cell line and thus to overcome the anticancer drug resistance.

The combined influence of structural factors (Y, Z substituents) on the rate of catalyzed by Z-substituted pyridines reactions of phenyloxirane with Y-substituted N-aroylbenzenesulfonamides in acetonitrile at 293 K was studied. A cross-correlation analysis of the results of a multifactor kinetic experiment was carried out. A polylinear regression, that adequately describes the non-additive effects of substituents Y and Z, was calculated. Due to the interaction of the joint effects of structure, the cross-reaction series exhibits isoparametric properties. The mechanism of the catalytic process has been discussed.
