A bimetallic coordination polymer (CP) {(H(2)pip)[Co1/3Fe2/3(pydc-2,5)(2)(H2O)]center dot 2H(2)O} {where H(2)pip = piperazinediium, pydc-2,5 = pyridine-2,5-dicarboxylate}, 1, was successfully synthesized using the hydrothermal technique. To establish the structure and confirm the phase purity of 1, the PXRD pattern of the synthesized compound was compared with the simulated PXRD pattern generated from the single-crystal X-ray data of an isomorphous pure Fe compound synthesized earlier by us. Systematic characterizations of compound 1 were performed by IR, TGA, SEM and EDX elemental mapping analysis. Compound 1 was used as a single-source precursor for the preparation of nano-sized CoFe2O4 with different sizes via thermal decomposition under different conditions. The precursor annealed at 300 degrees C resulted in an amorphous sample and a crystalline phase was achieved at 325 degrees C. The temperature of 325 degrees C was attained at the rate of similar to 5 degrees C min(-1) and maintained for 30 min to obtain sample 2, and the furnace was switched off within 2 min after the temperature was attained to obtain sample 3. The amorphous phase was labelled as sample 4. The as-obtained CoFe2O4 nanoparticles were characterized by PXRD, SEM, TEM and EDX elemental mapping analysis. The particle sizes were 11 nm and 13 nm for the samples treated for 2 min and 30 min, respectively. The differential thermal treatment by half an hour resulted in a dramatic change in the magnetic properties of cobalt ferrite. Sample 2 exhibited four-fold larger magnetization at room temperature than sample 3 even though they had comparable particle sizes. This result can be ascribed to the preferential occupancy of Co2+ in octahedral sites with an increase in annealing time, which eventually produces large magnetocrystalline anisotropy.

The as-fabricated MIPCP-Zn-PAAO displays extremely high catalytic ability for both phosphotriester and phosphodiester hydrolysis under mild condition (pH = 9, 30 degrees C). Advantageously, the observed pseudo first rate constant (k(obs)(MIPCP)) of MIPCP-Zn-PAAO-80% for diethyl 4-nitrophenyl phosphate (DENP, a nerve agent stimulant) hydrolysis is 2 x 10(4)-fold higher than that of self-hydrolysis. The maximum velocity (V-max) of MIPCP-Zn-PAAO-80% for DENP hydrolysis is even 6.9 times higher than that of the reported free organophosphorus hydrolase (OPH), representing the highest level among current polymer enzyme mimics. We introduce a new facile synthetic methodology for the preparation of alkyl pyridinium-containing acrylamide monomers. Inclusion complexes of these new monomers with CB[8] facilitate supramolecular crosslinking in a series of hydrogels formed through in situ polymerisation. The resulting hydrogels not only show greatly enhanced mechanical properties over a purely acrylamide-based gel, but also by selecting fluorescent pyridine moieties, the materials are endowed with the fluorescence properties desirable for several sensing applications.

Synthesis, Crystal Structure and Fluorescence Properties of Cadmium Complexes of Pyridine-2-formaldehyde Hydrazone

Three complexes ,[Cd(HL)Cl-2](2) (1), [Cd(HL)(2)Br-2] (2) and [Cd(HL)I-2] (3) (HL=2-(4-chlorophenoxy)-N’-(pyridin-2-ylmethylene)acetohydrazide), were synthesized using a common solution method. The crystal structure and properties were studied by X-ray single crystal diffraction, infrared spectrum, ultraviolet spectrum, fluorescence spectrum and thermogravimetric analysis. The analysis of single crysial diffraction structure shows that complex 1 belongs to monoclinic system, C2Ic space group, and is a diner bridged by chlorine ions. Complex 2 belongs to monoclinic system, P2(1)/c space group. It is a butterfly shaped mononuclear molecule containing two organic ligands. The central Cd2+ ions of complexes 1 and 2 are in a distorted octahedral position. Complex 3 belongs to triclinic system, P (1) over bar space group, in which there is only one organic ligand. The coordination polyhedron of Cd2+ ion of complex 3 is distorted trigonal bipyramid. Solid fluorescence analysis showed that both ligand and complexes had strong fluorescence and emitted green light.
