After this period of time, the reaction was taken into ice and extracted with DCM three times. The combined extract was washed with brine, dried over magnesium sulfate and concentrated in vacuo to give 2-methoxy-3-trifluoromethyl-pyridine as a light liquid (2.7 g, 89% yield). 1 H-NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6, 298 K): ? ppm 3.98 (s, 3H) 7.2 (dd, 1 H) 8.1 1 (d, 1 1-1) 8.45 (d, 1 H). MS: 178.1 [M+1 ]+, Rt(1) =1 .29 min.

Cool the mixture and remove the volatiles by rotary evaporation. Dissolve the residue in EtOAc (50 mL) and wash with water (50 mL), saturated NaHCO3(aq) (50 mL) and brine (50 mL). Dry the organic extract overMgSO4 and remove the solvent under reduced pressure to yield the title compound.
