A mixture of carboline 2 (1 mmol), vinylpyridine 3a (1 mmol), CsF (0.1 g), hydroquinone(0.02 g), and DMSO (1.5 mL) was heated with stirring for 6 h at 150-160 C and then concentrated in vacuo (3 Torr). The residue was extracted with CH2Cl2, and the solution was concentrated. The product was isolated by chromatography on silica gel(260 mesh) using MeOH-CHCl3, 1 : 10, as the eluent. Yield 2.6 g (80%). Rf 0.46 (CHCl3-MeOH,10 : 1). Found (%): C, 74.41; H, 6.68; N, 12.79. C20H22FN3. Calculated (%): C, 74.28; H, 6.86; N, 12.99.
