This was stirred at “70 C for 4 h before dropwise addition of 51 g (200 mmol) of iodine dissolved in 150 mL of tetrahydrofuran. This was stirred for 1 h before being quenched with water. The mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate and aqueous sodium bisulfite. The organic layer was evaporated in vacuo and the product was distilled on a Kugelrohr yielding 2- fluoro-3-iodopyridine (27.0 g, 60.6% yield).
