The reaction mixture was heated at 75 C for 18 h. The reaction mixture was diluted with dichloromethane, washed with water, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated. The crude was purified by silica gel column chromatography, using 50% ethyl acetate in hexane to afford methyl 6- (bromomethyl)nicotinate (0.28 g, 37% yield) as a brownish solid. Calculated M+H: 229.97; Found M+H: 230.01.
