Step 1: n-BuLi (4.8 mL, 12 mmol) was added dropwise to a solution of 5-bromo-2- chloro-3-methylpyridine (2.1 g, 10.0 mmol) in THF (40 mL) at -78 C. Then DMF (1.5 g, 20 mmol) was added, and stirred for another 2 hours at -78 C. Methanol (12 mL) was added to quench the reaction. NaBH4 (1.1 g, 30 mmol) was added, and stirred for 0.5h. Ice water (40 mL) was added. The mixture was extracted with DCM (30 mL x 3). Combined organic layers was washed with brine, dried over anhydrous Na2S04, concentrated and purified by flash column chromatography (PE/EA=2/1) to give the product 5-2 as yellow oil.
