Piperazine-1 -carboxylic acid tert- butyl ester (3.0 g, 16.11 mmol), 5-bromo-2-nitro-pyridine (3.3 g, 16.11 mmol) and DIPEA (6.2 g, 48.32 mmol) in ethanol (30 ml.) are stirred at rt for 20 h. The reaction mixture is concentrated under reduces pressure and the residue is diluted with ethyl acetate and water. The organic layer is washed with water, brine, dried over MgS04, filtered and concentrated under reduces pressure.
