A solution of the acid chloride (4.5 g, 18.4 mmol) in 60 mL of dry dichloromethane was added dropwise over 1 hour to a solution of tert-butyl 2-aminoethylcarbamate (5.9 g, 36.8 mmol) and triethylamine (3.7 g, 36.8 mmol) in 40 mL of dry dichloromethane at 0C and stirring was continued for 2 hours. The mixture was concentrated under vacuum and the residue was purified by flash chromatography on silica gel (200-300 mesh) eluting with 100/1 dichloromethane/methanol to give the title compound.
