The electrochemical behavior of a series of the metal complexes [Fe(III), Ni(II), Ru(III),Pd(II) and Hf(IV)]derived from the Schiff base ligand(E)-5-((phenyl(-pyridin-2-yl) methylene) amino) pyrimidine-2,4(1H, 3H)-dione(H2L) which was previously prepared from condensation of 5-aminouracil and 2-benzoylpyridine was studied by using cyclic voltammetric technique. The Schiff base ligand H2L and its metal complexes exhibited quasi- reversible oxidation- reduction with three electron transfer and it was suggested that their reactions on the platinum surface electrode are not purely diffusion controlled but also under adsorption control. The redox reactive sites of the H2L and its complexes were located via the geometry optimization and frequency calculations using density functional theory (DFT) at the B3LYP/LanL2DZ level of theory. In addition, the Schiff base ligand and its metal complexes exhibit fluorescent properties. The antimicrobial activity of the Schiff base ligand H2L and its metal complexes was tested against Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus cereus(,Gram-negative bacteria (E. coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and fungal strain (Aspergillus niger) by using agar well-diffusion method. The microbial testes of the ligand (H2L) and its metal complexes exhibited good inhibition efficiency to prevent growth of bacteria. (c) 2020 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The heterogeneous decarboxylative cyclization reaction between 2-benzoylpyridines and alpha-amino acids was achieved in toluene at 120 degrees C in the presence of 15 mol% of L-proline-functionalized MCM-41-supported copper(II) complex [L-Proline-MCM-41-Cu(OTf)(2)] and iodine with di-tert-butyl peroxide (DTBP) as oxidant, yielding a variety of 1,3-disubstituted imidazo[1,5-a]pyridines in good to excellent yields. The new supported copper catalyst can be prepared from commercially available and inexpensive reagents, and recovered from the reaction mixture by a simple filtration and recycled up to eight times with almost consistent activity. We report a mild palladium-catalyzed selective dehydrogenation of 4-alkylpyridines that exploits their soft enolization to alkylidene dihydropyridines using allyl chloroformate under metal-free conditions. Treatment of these intermediates with a palladium catalyst liberates an alkylpyridylic anion and an allylpalladium(II) intermediate, which combine and undergo beta-hydride elimination to install a double bond. Importantly, the formation of gas byproducts makes the process very practical. Furthermore, the reaction tolerates a broad range of functional groups, including many that can be dehydrogenated using similar palladium-catalyzed reactions, and is selective for 4-alkylpyridines even in substrates bearing multiple pyridylic positions.

Additive nature of the combined effect of the structure (X, Y substituents) and temperature on the rate and free activation energy has been established for the reactions of phenyloxirane with Y-substituted N-aroylbenzenesulfonamides catalyzed by X-substituted pyridines. An efficient, reusable and stable binaphthyl stabilized Pd-nanoparticles (Pd-BNP) catalyzed the direct ortho-C-H hydroxylation of acetophenone oxime ethers under neutral and phosphine ligand-free condition has been developed. A readily available, economic, safe and greener oxidant oxone has been used in this direct ortho-hydroxylation. The scope of the reaction has been studied with various acetophenone oxime ethers including electron rich to electron deficient system and the reaction afforded only mono hydroxylated products in a highly regioselective manner. Several control experiment results confirmed that the oxone is the hydroxyl source. The Pd-BNP catalyst has been reused up to five times. The heterogeneous test confirmed that the reaction is catalyzed by the heterogeneous Pd-BNP catalyst.

Diverse quinolizinone compounds could be attained with good efficiencies. Three novel ruthenium nitrosyl complexes [Ru(NO)Cl-3(InicMe)(2)] (1b), [RuNOCl3(NicEt)(2)] (1c) and [RuNOCl3(NicMe)(2)] (1d) (InicMe = methyl isonicotinate, NicEt = ethyl nicotinate, NicMe = methyl nicotinate)were prepared and crystal structure of the complexes were determined by single crystal XRD analysis. In all complexes, the organic ligands are coordinated by a pyridine nitrogen atom and located in trans-position each to other and in cis-position to NO group. In the crystal package of all compounds stacking interactions of two types were determined: pi(arene)-pi(arene) and pi(COO)-pi(arene) stacking. Finally, cytotoxicity of the compounds was tested on Hep2 and HepG2 cell lines. In the set of similar compounds mer-[RuNO(L)(2)Cl-3] (L = Py, gamma-Pic, beta-Pic, Inic-Alk, Nic-Alk), complexes with iso-nicotinic acid esters are the most toxic, while nicotinic acid derivatives are less toxic and compared with pyridine complex. An efficient acid-catalyzed condensation between substituted benzohydrazides and 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoroterephthalic acid to form 1,4-bis(5-aryl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorobenzenes is reported. The products were isolated in 74-87% yield and were characterized by(1)H NMR, IR, and mass spectra.

An organocatalyzed aerobic benzylic C-H oxidation of alkyl and aryl heterocycles has been developed. This transition metal-free method is able to overcome the electron-withdrawing effect as well as product-inhibition effects in heterobenzylic radical oxidation. A variety of ketones bearing N-heterocyclic groups could be prepared under relatively mild conditions with moderate to high yields.

In this study Guar gum based Cu(II) Schiff’s base complex (GG-Cu) has been synthesized and characterized by FTIR, PXRD, UV-vis, TGA, XPS, FESEM, TEM, EDAX, solid-state NMR, Elemental mapping, CHNS and AAS analysis. This moiety has been found to be an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for selective oxidation reactions. Fifteen model reactions have been carried to establish the catalytic behavior of GG-Cu, and five of these yield novel products. The ease of separation of catalyst from the reaction mixture simply by filtration is an added advantage; furthermore the catalyst can be reused up to five times without significant loss of catalytic activity. The overall concept of developing newer, efficient and environmental benign catalysts with ease of separation and recycling ability has been successfully demonstrated. All of the isolated products were fully characterized on the basis of their physical and spectral data.
