To a stirred solution of 3-bromo-5-chloro- 1H- pyrrolo[2,3-c]pyridine (AJ-2) (2.9 g, 12.6 mmol) in anhydrous DMF (100 mL) was added 2- chloro-6-(trifluoromethyl)benzoyl chloride (4.6 g, 18.9 mmol) and NaH (60%) (1 g, 25.2 mmol). The solution was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. The solution was quenched with H2O(400 mL). The suspension was extracted with EtOAc (150 mL x 3). The combined organic layer was washed with H2O(100 mL x 2) and brine (100 mL x 2) and dried over anhydrous Na2SO4. The solution was evaporated and dried over vacuo and 5.7 g product was obtained.
