General procedure: In a 50 mL R.B. flask, chalcone (3, 2 mmol) and amidine ( 5, 2 mmol) in the presence of base NaH (3 mmol) were stirred in DMF (10 ml) at 135-140 oC. After the completion of reaction, reaction mixture was poured in cold water with vigorous stirring and neutralized it with N/5 HCl solution. The precipitate was filtered and dried.
