Synthesis, characterization and dielectric properties of porous hydrogen-bonded organic framework of pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic acid with 4-methoxyaniline and its Bi(III) complex

Pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic acid (H(2)PDA) on treating with 4-methoxyaniline (MA) results in the formation of a 1:1 proton transfer compound, methoxybenzene-4-ammoniumpyridine-2,6-dicarbocylate, (HMA(+))(HPDA(-)), which is a hydrogen bonded supra-molecular framework. Reaction between H(2)PDA, MA and bismuth(III)nitrate penta-hydrate in 2:1:1 ratio results in the formation of a proton transfer complex, (HMA)(2)[Bi-2(PDA)(4 center dot)2H(2)O](center dot)4H(2)O. Both compounds have been characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, FT-IR, UV-Visible, H-1, and C-13 NMR and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. According to XRD studies (HMA(+))(HPDA(-)) crystallizes with tetragonal crystal system in P4(1) space group and (HMA)(2)[Bi-2(PDA)(4 center dot)2H(2)O](center dot)4H(2)O with monoclinic P2(1)/c space group.
